MoMa
MoMa consists of Swedish flutist and composer Molly Påhlsson and Finnish-Sámi flutist and composer Marianne Sihvonen. Their collaboration began at the Darmstadt Summer Course for Contemporary Music in 2021, where they discovered a shared desire to compose their own works and to reimagine performance practices in new music - moving beyond classical traditions.
With an approach that combines intensely connected performance, improvisational structures, and electronics including effect pedals, synthesizers and fixed tape tracks, MoMa creates original music that merges their classical roots with experimental sound art, free improvisation and influences from popular music. The result is a distinctive sonic language that is both exploratory and deeply expressive.
MoMa has received scholarships from the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt and support from Claire Chase’s Density Arts Fund. Their award-winning work has been presented at renowned venues such as Fylkingen in Stockholm and Musikhuset Aarhus, and has been broadcast on Danish Radio P2.
